You've adjusted your valves & you still hear a ticking noise or your're checking your timing & the timing mark on the flywheel is jumping around. What's the problem?

Your timing chain is badly worn.

Most of the time you can get away with replaceing only the timing chain & not the crankshaft & camshaft gears.

YOU GET:

  • Timing chain with master link
  • Tensioner foot
  • tensioner spring

Don't forget to also get new gaskets & seals! We also carry them! These can be found under "Engine Gaskets & Seals" for your year and Model. Just click on the drop down.

INSTALLATION TIPS:

  1. Remove the alternator, diode board & timing advance or bean can.
  2. Remove all of the nuts & bolts.
  3. Use a little bit of heat around the crankshaft seal (bigger on in the middle) & lightly tap off the timing cover.
  4. To remove the chain line up the marks on the cam & crankshaft gears (very faint & hard to see).
  5. Remove the tensioner foot & spring.
  6. Use a Dremel or large bolt cutters to cut through one of the links make sure not to get any metal in the engine. 1970-1978 0NLY
  7. Install the new chain with master link. I like to have a magnet near the link so when the clip flys off it doesn't go flying away.
